Maiden PeaceJam Uganda Slam Held at Makerere University
On the 27th of April, we conducted the first-ever PeaceJam (PJ) Uganda Slam. This was a one-day conference that brought together young people to discuss how best they can influence positive change in their communities. The theme of the conference was, “Harnessing the Power of Youth”.
The slam was preceded by a PeaceJam Mentors’ Training on the previous day (26th April) where university students were acquainted with the knowledge and skills of facilitating small group discussions ahead of the conference.
During this conference, PeaceJam Mentors facilitated small (family) group sessions in which they involved primary & high school students in conversations about how they can make a difference in their communities. These were sessions in which everyone participated and spoke.
The cornerstone of PeaceJam (PJ) work is young people, as we believe they have the energies and determination to get things done. PJ works with 14 Nobel Peace Laureates who pass on their knowledge, skills, and experiences to inspire young people to change the world.
